Twitter: Am I too old to get it... or not old enough?

If you watch the news or use the internet you have heard of Twitter. It's apparently the hottest thing since the Macarena. The news quotes random people on Twitter more than getting things like actual "facts" from places like "experts in the field". The thing is I don't get it. I REALLY just don't get it. I signed up for a Twitter account a few months ago just to try and understand it. Still don't see the point. What's the need for Twitter when Facebook does the same thing but better?

Anyway, do any of you use it? What do you use it for? And why aren't we following buddies yet? (@surlysci) If you don't use it, SIGN UP (here) and get in on this AMAZING conversation that we should apparently be having with each other.

Or don't. It's not like a gave a very inspirational "William Wallace in Braveheart" level speech there to pusuade you to join. But honestly, if I could do that I'd probably understand what it's all about by now.

PS: Those of you with iPhones, there's a bunch of cool apps for twitter out there that make it really easy to use. I like Twitterfon.

PPS: I was thinking of saying something like "If I get over 5 followers I'll make sure I twitter..er?, tweet? a minimum of three times a day" as a way to get the ball rolling, but I'm not sure if that sounds more like a promise or a threat. Guess it depends on how much you really want to know what I do when I'm home by myself and left to my own devices.
